JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Maintaining a ready force depends on more than training and equipment, it requires service members and their families to have reliable access to quality health care. Eligible Joint Base Langley-Eustis beneficiaries have another Department of Defense-authorized TRICARE Prime option through the Uniformed Services Family Health Plan, expanding access to care across Hampton Roads.
Access to dependable health care helps strengthen readiness by reducing stress during military transitions, improving continuity of care and allowing service members to remain focused on the mission.
“Joint Base Langley-Eustis is built on the strength of our people across every service and mission set,” said Col. Stephen Anderson, 633d Air Base Wing commander. “Ensuring our families and retirees understand their health care options supports continuity, reduces stress during transitions and ultimately strengthens our ability to defend the base and support the fight.”
Administered by Johns Hopkins Health Plans, the USFHP offers the same coverage and costs as traditional TRICARE Prime while providing access to a civilian network of more than 40,000 health care providers nationwide, including more than 10,000 throughout the Hampton Roads region. Members may choose a primary care provider within the network while receiving comprehensive TRICARE Prime benefits, preventive care and coordinated specialty care.
“Every family has unique health care needs and preferences,” said Carly Kavanay, Johns Hopkins Health Plans representative. “Our plan gives members the flexibility to choose a primary care provider within our network who is the right fit for them, build a lasting relationship with a physician who gets to know their health history, and change providers if their needs or preferences evolve.”
Additional benefits include same-day specialty referrals, after-hours virtual care, annual eye exams and wellness-related discounts. Eligible beneficiaries may also switch between USFHP and traditional TRICARE Prime at any time without waiting for TRICARE Open Season or a qualifying life event.
Information about the plan is available through newcomer orientations and family support programs, helping eligible beneficiaries understand the health care options available throughout their military service.
In addition to eligible active-duty family members, USFHP is available to eligible family members of activated Reserve and National Guard personnel, military retirees and other qualified beneficiaries living within designated service areas in Virginia and surrounding states.
