The Honor in Honor Guard

By Airman 1st Class Adisen Smith 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

In the realm of military service, few roles embody the solemnity, discipline, and honor quite like the Base Honor Guard. These dedicated Airmen stand as sentinels of respect, entrusted with the profound duty of honoring fallen service members and presenting the colors at various ceremonies such as promotions, retirements, and awards, all representing the highest ideals of service. The Base Honor Guard is known for their profound sense of precision, purpose and resilience.

“I once participated in a detail for a funeral ceremony for a veteran who did not have a family and it had a very profound impact on me, realizing our significant role in ensuring everyone receives the respect they deserve,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Christian Pardo Prada, former base honor guardsman.

The importance of Base Honor Guard extends beyond ceremonies, as they embody values of respect, integrity, and service to others. Their resilience isn’t merely about enduring the demands of their role but excelling under the pressure of high expectations and maintaining standards while doing it.

“I expected the Base Honor Guard to be very solemn, but I also found it to be a very rewarding and humbling experience that taught me valuable life skills I still use to this day,” said Prada.

The Base Honor Guard stands as a testament to the spirit of resilience. Their commitment to duty, their precision in every salute, and their solemn reverence for fallen comrades, represents dignity and respect to those who gave this country their all, and it is important to never forget that.
