JBLE publishes FY22 Economic Impact Analysis

By Tech. Sgt. Chandler Baker 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Joint Base Langley-Eustis fiscal year 2022 Economic Impact Analysis was released by the 633d Comptroller Squadron, citing an increase of $110 million in economic impact to the community since 2020.

“Our mission would not be possible without our flourishing community connections,” said Col. Gregory Beaulieu, JBLE installation commander. “We are beyond thankful to the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, and Poquoson, and all the residents of the Hampton Roads community who continue to support us and allow us to call this area home.”

In the FY22 analysis, JBLE’s economic impact to the Hampton Roads area totaled $3.5 billion, up from $3.39 billion in 2020.  In the biannual report, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the Bureau of Labor Statistics JBLE creates over 37,000 jobs in Hampton Roads.

The EIA works as a decision support tool for senior leadership, as well as local and state officials, to illustrate the positive impact our military installation has on the community; representing an estimate of the amount of money it generates into the local economy.

Data is collected from units and mission partners to compile and create the report, and direct stimulus is measured by the magnitude of military and civilian payroll for JBLE.  Indirect stimulus is gauged using the product of pre-determined economic stimulus multipliers and the average income of the Hampton Roads area.

Together, indirect and direct stimuli are combined to create an estimated impact JBLE has on the surrounding area for fiscal year 2022. For more information on the FY22 EIA, click here.
