Weekly Briefs - Sept. 1

By Senior Airman Heidi Davis 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The following news briefs can also be found in this week's edition of The Flyer.

Sweeney center lane changes
Safety concerns on the use of the center lane on Sweeney Boulevard has prompted changes on how this lane will be used starting mid-September. Currently, the center lane is a two-way left turn lane except 6-9 a.m., when it functions as a one-way lane for inbound traffic.

This will change as the center lane will become a two-way left turn lane at all times of the day. Drivers traveling in either direction may use the lane for making left turns.
In accordance with traffic safety standards, drivers cannot travel more than 150 feet in this lane before making a left turn.

Also, drivers will see improvements to intersections at Sweeney and Holly Street, and Sweeney and Elm Street. The most significant changes are allowing two left turn lanes from Elm onto Sweeney and opening two outbound lanes on Sweeney after passing Holly. Proper pavement markings for these intersections and Sweeney will initiate these changes. Changes will be made Sept. 9-10 and will reopen Sept. 11.

There will be an increase in security presence along this route, and citations will be issued for failure to obey.
