Carson & Barnes Circus coming to Langley

By Staff Sgt. Thomas J. Doscher 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Gator Allmond was 4 years old when he saw his first circus, but he still remembers watching the circus train pulling in, the workers buzzing around like ants and the sight of the big top rising into the sky.

Now he's helping the 1st Services Squadron host the Carson and Barnes Circus Sept. 28.

"This is a good thing spouses and families can do together and remember for the rest of their lives," he said of the show.

The Carson and Barnes Circus features the world's largest traveling zoo, complete with elephants, camels and monkeys.

Shows start at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. All military, retirees, Department of Defense and Non-Appropriated Fund employees are welcome to attend. The concert is not open to the general public.

"If you can get on Langley, you can come," Mr. Allmond said.

Carson Barnes Circus gave Langley discount ticket prices. Adult tickets cost $8 and children tickets ages 2 - 11 cost $6. Normally, an adult ticket is $16. A portion of the ticket revenues will go to Langley Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs.

Also, the winners of the 1st SVS coloring contest will receive a family pack of tickets for the show. The winners will be announced Monday.

"This is a welcome home for the troops who have been gone," Mr. Allmond said. "The circus was here in 1997, and we called them back when we heard they do special shows for the military."

Ticket upgrades will be available after 9 a.m. the day of the show or online at www.carsonbarnescircus.com.

Mr. Allmond said the show is worth the wait.

"Just to see the excitement - not only in kids' eyes, but in grown-ups' eyes is one of the most exciting things you can imagine," he said. "They'll remember it for the rest of their lives."
