Fort Eustis units prepare to deploy

By Airman 1st Class Monica Roybal | 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs | Jan. 30, 2018

JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. —

Two units from Joint Base Langley-Eustis were recognized during deployment ceremonies conducted at McClellan Fitness Center at Fort Eustis, Virginia, the week of Jan. 22-26, 2018.

Family members and senior leaders gathered at the ceremonies to send off their loved ones and fellow Soldiers.

The 612th Movement Control Team, 53rd Movement Control Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) is scheduled to deploy in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. The team has spent the last six months focused on pre-deployment training and has traveled the nation to hone key skills required to complete their mission.

“Our unit’s mission is to coordinate transportation support for brigade combat teams and friendly forces throughout the area of operations,” said Capt. Michael Weidner, commander, 612th MCT, 53rd MCB, 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex.). “We are very proud of our soldiers, most of whom have already been gone from home for two out of the last six months preparing for our mission.”

Operation Atlantic Resolve is the United States’ response to ongoing concerns regarding Russia’s presence in Ukraine. The U.S. is displaying sustained commitment to security and stability alongside NATO and allied partners through this operation.

The 74th Dive Detachment, 92nd Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade has also been working hard on refining skills to ensure unit mission readiness in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

Beginning in 2011, Operation Spartan Shield has established efforts in the Middle East to secure and maintain land-ready operational forces and hinder aggression in the region.

“The deployment preparation has extended over the previous six months,” said Capt. Barrett LeHardy, commander, 74th Dive Det., 92nd Engineer. Bn., 20th Engineer Bde. “We conducted multiple ranges, several field training exercises and small diving missions to prepare our soldiers for what’s to come.”
