By Tech. Sgt. Natasha Stannard and Airman 1st Class Anthony Nin Leclerec 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron and Fort Eustis Fire Emergency Services hosted National Fire Prevention Week a Joint Base Langley Eustis, October 8-14, 2017.

Fire Prevention Week commemorates the great Chicago fire of 1871, which killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless and destroyed more than 17,400 buildings.

Fire Prevention Week is observed to promote maximum participation in fire and life safety education. During the week, the Fire Emergency Service flights' attention focused on promoting fire safety and prevention throughout the JBLE community. This year’s theme was “Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out!” and aimed to educate members on the importance of having an emergency escape plan.

The 633rd CES and Fort Eustis FES held a variety of events, including an open house, fire truck display, Live Kitchen Fire demonstration, static display booth, Child Development Center visit and Firefighter Combat Challenge.
