Joint Base Langley-Eustis Area Defense Counsel

The Area Defense Counsel provides legal defense services to active-duty Service members in Uniform Code of Military Justice proceedings and adverse administrative actions.

About your ADC

ADCs are licensed attorneys - They are law school graduates that passed a bar exam and remain in good standing with their state bar. Additionally, ADCs are certified by the Air Force as trial defense attorneys.

ADCs are experienced JAGs - They are experienced officers who know how the Air Force works. Additionally, as ADCs with prosecutorial experience, they can anticipate what prosecutors will do or what type of punishment a commander may levy.

Their counsel is confidential - Individuals who contact the ADC have confidentiality with the counsels, the defense paralegal and any other member of the defense team.

They are independent- ADCs work for a separate chain of command, reporting directly to Washington DC. They do not work for any of the base commanders or the base staff judge advocate. This separate chain of command ensures they are not pressured by any commander to do anything against your best interests.

Their counsel is free - Service members will not be charged any fees for legal advice for UCMJ proceedings or adverse administrative actions.
