The 1st Operations Group directs the training and employment of two F-22 air dominance squadrons, a T-38 adversary air squadron, and an operations support squadron.

The group is responsible for 300 people, $7 billion in resources, and more than 12,000 flight hours annually.

In addition to carrying out local training requirements, the group deploys personnel and equipment on a regular basis to support operations worldwide.

The 1 OG's awards include eight Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, most recently for the period 1 June 2008 to 31 May 2010.  The 1OG's fighter squadrons have won the Raytheon/Hughes Trophy, awarded to the top Air Superiority squadron in the Air Force, a total of seven times, most recently the 27th Fighter Squadron in 2010.

1st Operations Support Squadron
The 1 OSS is responsible for all facets of airfield operations, or ops, air traffic control, weather, aircrew life support and training, intelligence analysis and support, weapons and tactics training, 1st FW battle staff operations, airspace scheduling, range ops and wing flying hour program for three flying squadrons.

27th Fighter Squadron
The 27 FS is the oldest fighter squadron in the Air Force. As one of two combat fighter squadrons of the 1 FW, the 27 FS is tasked to provide air superiority for United States or allied forces by engaging and destroying enemy forces, equipment, defenses or installations for global deployment. The Fightin' Eagles are equipped with the F-22 Raptor air-dominance fighter.

71st Fighter Training Squadron
The 71st is tasked to provide world-class adversary air support to enhance the 1st/192d FW's combat capability so the combat-ready force is able to conduct air-superiority operations anywhere in the world for the United States and its allies.  The Ironmen are equipped with the T-38A/B.

94th Fighter Squadron
The 94 FS is one of the oldest and most decorated fighter squadrons in America's history. The 94 FS is tasked to provide air superiority for the United States or allied forces by engaging and destroying enemy forces, equipment, defenses or installations for global deployment as part of the 1 FW.  The Spads are equipped with the F-22 Raptor air-dominance fighter.
