Bethel Manor housing area to receive traffic changes

By Senior Airman Kimberly Nagle 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Joint Base Langley-Eustis off-base housing areas in Hampton, Virginia will experience traffic changes beginning Sept. 19, 2016. Members of the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron will be installing barriers and a set of spikes at the entrance on First Street, making it an exit only gate.

633rd Air Base Wing leadership implemented changes due to an influx of crime in the housing area over the last three years, to keep patrons safe and secure.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Francis Sands, 633rd Security Forces Squadron Police Services and Confinement NCO said that the entrance off of Raptor Boulevard, along with the pedestrian gates will be open at all times.

“The personnel who live on the Frontier Crossing side will be the most affected by the changes instead of entering at First Street, they now will have to drive all the way around,” said Sands. “Commuters should plan for additional traffic on Big Bethel Road and adjust their travel times.”

In addition to the changes, the Bethel Manor school gate will now be locked from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. The gates will be opened for evening activities.

Even though more security measures are being implemented, Sands encourages those who live in the area to remain vigilant by locking all of their doors and vehicles.
