With JBLE implementing the new DBIDS system this month, will base entry policy change?

"Ask the JBLE Commander" is a forum for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns about Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis directly to Col. John J. Allen, Jr., the 633rd Air Base Wing commander.

Question:

Currently, passengers without Common Access Cards, or CACs, are permitted access to the base if the driver has a CAC. With Joint Base Langley-Eustis implementing a new entry control system this month, will this policy change?

  Response:

Beginning the week of July 8, Joint Base Langley-Eustis will begin using the Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, to regulate installation access. The requirements to bring passengers onto the installation will remain the same.

If a military member has a passenger in the same vehicle with a state ID, they will still be allowed to process through the gate after providing those credentials to the Security Forces member. Individuals with DOD affiliated ID cards must have sponsorship privileges to bring passengers onto the installation. CAC holders can sponsor for the members in the vehicle with them.
